simply converting from mm to inches or from inches to mm will not cause nothing...
for computing 1 inch, or 25.4 mm doesn't matter..
in the output 2 digit or 4 digit makes differences.. in inches the two digit will not be sufficient.. in mm the 4 digit will be too much, unnecessary, due your machine just cant follow anyway..

what you posted samples, the left side either way you smoothed down or used different resolution..
there are at least details are half or worst...
if you set low resolution in artcam, then everything will be smooth..
on the end, you don't need really relief, simply paint details without any hocus-pocus.. so will not be necessary any detail be milled..

by the way, after you find the problem in the program, did you fix it? if you post the patch we might can use it ....
